Argentina midfielder Maxi Rodriguez admitted to being relieved after his wonder goal sealed a 2-1 win over Mexico in the World Cup second round.

Rodriguez blasted in a superb left-foot volley from 25 yards in extra-time to seal a hard-fought victory and a quarter-final clash with hosts Germany.

"I just took the ball on my chest and decided to take a chance," Rodriguez said.

"To be honest, it could have gone into the stand but luckily it went into the net.

"I think that goal helped ease the pressure on us a little bit. It was a difficult game and we just couldn't find a way through."
