Arsenal's Switzerland international centre-half Philippe Senderos faces six weeks out of action due to a shoulder injury sustained in the 2-0 win over South Korea.
Senderos dislocated his shoulder after scoring a crucial opener for the Swiss and his World Cup campaign came to an abrupt halt as a result.
However, Switzerland team doctor Roland Grossen says that the injury does not require surgery, as had been previously feared.
He said: "We have had to immobilise his injury for two weeks and on Monday we will take him for an MRI scan to see if there are any additional problems.
"At the moment surgery is not necessary and that is something we have discussed fully with the Arsenal doctors.
"He should be able to play again in five or six weeks if there are no additional problems."
