Brentford striker Lloyd Owusu is hoping his club form will earn him a shock call-up into the Ghana World Cup squad.

The 29-year-old returned to Griffin Park last summer and has enjoyed his second spell with the club, scoring 12 goals this term for the promotion-chasing Bees.

Owusu's form has attracted the attention of Ghana manager Ratomir Dujkovic who has asked the former Reading striker to link up with the squad ahead of Wednesday's friendly against Stuttgart.

Owusu told PA Sport: "I knew there was an inkling with regard to me making the Ghana squad.

"They're due to announce the World Cup squad next month and I'd heard they had been looking at me so it was just a case of keeping on working hard at my football.

"I found out I was in the squad when Mr Dujkovic phoned me on Friday and asked me to come and play in Germany. Obviously I asked the gaffer (Martin Allen) and he was delighted, he told me 'go for it'."

Ghana have been drawn in a tough World Cup group and can look forward to games against Italy, the USA and the Czech Republic.
