England coach Sven-Goran Eriksson thinks the best is still to come from his team now that they have clinched a place in the quarter-finals of the World Cup.

England have been unimpressive in their four games in Germany to date but became the third team to reach the last eight with a 1-0 victory against Ecuador on Sunday.

They will play Portugal in Gelsenkirchen on Saturday and Eriksson is confident his team will produce an improved display against Luis Felipe Scolari's side.

"We all know we can play better, but after four games we are playing better and better and the best will come," said the Swede.

"It's strange knowing you can play better and you've already reached the quarter-finals.

"I'm not concerned. Everything will be okay. Germany are there, Argentina are there and we were the third team in the quarters. I'm rather proud of that. We will do better than we did four years ago.

"If we go out thinking we will control the match (against Portugal) and make 20 chances we are in the wrong place. We are down to the last eight in the world. Mexico made life extremely hard for Argentina.

"It's time we had luck in a big tournament. In other tournaments we have not been lucky at all. I can assure you we will play better on Saturday."
