Czech Republic goalkeeper Petr Cech was forced to have a shoulder operation on Monday following his side's exit from the World Cup finals at the group stage.
The 24-year-old Chelsea shot-stopper had the surgery after struggling with long-term problems in both shoulders.
A brief statement from Chelsea read: "Petr Cech had a routine shoulder operation on Monday following the Czech Republic's exit from the World Cup.
"The operation was to clear up some minor problems outstanding from last season and he will be working with the Chelsea medical staff to be fit as soon as possible."
Cech played in all three of the Czech Republic's Group E matches - a win against the USA and defeats to Ghana and Italy.
Cech has made 69 Premiership appearances for Jose Mourinho's side since his £7million transfer from Rennes two years ago.
