Bayern Munich star Owen Hargreaves believes that England have the best range of midfield options in the world.

Hargreaves fitted in at right-back for the 1-0 win over Ecuador, with Sven-Goran Eriksson utilising a five-man midfield, including Michael Carrick in the holding role in front of the back four.

"When you look at our squad I don't think we could have any better midfield players in the world," Hargreaves told reporters. "We've got an incredible array of talent.

"If you look even at the bench, you've got Stewart Downing, a great left-sided player, and Aaron Lennon who has been displaying incredible pace.

"On the right wing, there is David Beckham who can whip the ball in from anywhere, while Joe Cole on the other flank is incredible in one-on-one situations, dribbling and getting in the box.

"Frank Lampard and Steven Gerrard are two of the most gifted midfielders in the world, while Michael Carrick is a one of the best passers in football.

"Then you've got myself as the more defensive type of player. It's a great balance.

"We have got the great players who will continue to improve and to play better football as well."
