Brazil coach Carlos Alberto Parreira has admitted he has been disappointed by Ronaldinho's performances at the World Cup finals.

The holders have won all four of their matches in Germany to date, but several of their star players have failed to impress.

Chief among them is Ronaldinho, who has been almost unrecognisable as the player who inspired Barcelona to the Primera Liga and Champions League double last term.

Parreira said: "Ronaldinho, unlike the one of Barcelona, is only at a reasonable level.

"He needs to go up a step for the quarter-finals, the semis and, God willing, the final."

Ronaldinho is frustrated by his inability to make an impact on the tournament, but is confident he will improve as he becomes more accustomed to the deeper role he has been asked to play for his country.

"I have alternated between good moments and not so good moments so far. In the role I play, the important thing is not to give the ball away," said the 26-year-old.

"To err in a moment when the team cannot afford to lose the ball leaves me sad. When things go well, when I pass for goal, it is marvellous.

"To play in this area is complicated. There are always many players in midfield.

"I am trying to get myself near the area. The aim is to get further forward so I have the option to dribble."
