Vincenzo Iaquinta looks set to miss Italy's World Cup quarter-final against Ukraine on Friday because of a groin injury.
The Udinese striker was unable to train with the rest of the squad on Thursday and coach Marcello Lippi is unlikely to risk him in Hamburg.
Back-up goalkeeper Angelo Peruzzi sat out the session because of a back problem and is not expected to recover in time to take his place on the bench.
Italy will also be without thigh injury victim Alessandro Nesta and suspended duo Marco Materazzi and Daniele De Rossi.
