Brazil striker Ronaldo is set to have knee surgery this summer but should be ready to return to action for the start of Real Madrid's season next month.
Ronaldo has been struggling with knee pains for the last eight months and needs the operation to remove calcium deposits.
Brazil doctor Jose Luis Runco said: "Now at the end of the World Cup he told me that he would probably use the holidays for the surgery.
"He's had it for eight months and every now and then he complains (of pain).
"If it is what I think it is, it will be a quick surgery and he'll be ready to play by the start of the season."
Ronaldo became the World Cup's all-time leading goalscorer with 15 after netting three times in this summer's tournament.
