Jamaica Football Federation president Crenston Boxhill has rubbished speculation suggesting Sven-Goran Eriksson is in line to become the new coach of the Reggae Boyz.

A report in Thursday's edition of The Independent claimed the JFF was willing to offer the outgoing England boss an annual salary of £3million after the Jamaican government agreed to help fund the appointment of a high-profile new boss for the national team.

The newspaper also suggested Portugal's Luiz Felipe Scolari, Germany's Jurgen Klinsmann, Brazil's Carlos Alberto Parreira and former England coach Glenn Hoddle were also being considered for the job.

However, Boxhill told the Jamaica Observer: "I don't know anything about the story. I'm hearing that for the first time. In fact, it's major news."

He was, however, able to confirm that ex-England winger John Barnes is a serious candidate for the vacancy.

"It's no secret that we've been talking to a couple of people, including John Barnes," added Boxhill. "But we're still putting together a shortlist."
