Horacio Elizondo has been chosen to referee Sunday's World Cup Final between Italy and France.
The Argentinian was in charge of England's quarter-final defeat to Portugal when he controversially sent Wayne Rooney off for stamping on Ricardo Carvalho.
German referee Markus Merk and Slovakian official Lubos Michel had been the favourites to land the honour.
Elizondo was also in charge of the first game of the tournament between Germany and Costa Rica which the hosts won 4-2.
