Portugal winger Cristiano Ronaldo has signalled his intention to quit Manchester United this summer, with Real Madrid his most likely destination.

The 21-year-old has come in for some heavy criticism following his involvement in Wayne Rooney's sending-off in the World Cup quarter-final, and Ronaldo now believes he will have to move on due to the feeding frenzy around him.

He said after his country's 3-1 loss to Germany: "Everyone knows what the English are like. When they lose two of three times to Portugal they get irritated.

"They are practically kicking me out of the country.

"Throughout the whole of this time, neither the chairman, nor the coach came out in my defence. I no longer have conditions to continue, I feel weakened there.

"I didn't do anything wrong to anybody, I am blameless in what is happening. They are making a storm in a tea-cup.

"I'm calm, my agent Jorge Mendes is dealing with the situation and in the next two or three days everything will be sorted out.

"I've already said more than once that my dream is to play for Real Madrid and maybe it will be now."
