Japan coach Zico believes that striker Seiichiro Maki will prove to be a valuable member of his squad for the World Cup finals in Germany.
The JEF United Chiba frontman was a surprise pick for the 23-man party, but Zico has been impressed with Maki's recent performances.
He said: "Maki has performed remarkably for his club since last year.
"I've called him up since the beginning of this year and he has shown what he can do constantly in every single match he has played for us.
"He's got natural gifts as a forward with a strong physique, good conditioning and has good capabilities in the area.
"If he can carry on like he has, he will work well for us in the tournament.
"I wanted to pick players who are in perfect condition to compete in the tournament."
