Costa Rica star Paulo Wanchope is backing his side to make their mark at the World Cup finals in Germany this summer.

Wanchope's team take on hosts Germany, Poland and Ecuador in Group A this summer and the lanky frontman is confident that Los Ticos will put on a good show.

He said: "Many of us have a lot of experience in international play.

"We are going to search for points from the first game against Germany. It doesn't matter who we're playing we have to find the maximum points to advance.

"In the World Cup qualifiers, I was the national team's leading scorer.

"I've made many goals for the national team despite the criticism. I don't have to prove anything to anyone."
