Newcastle United's hopes of signing Feyenoord's Dutch international striker Dirk Kuyt have received a major boost after the player stressed his desire to join the club.
The Magpies are in the hunt for a top quality striker to replace the retired Alan Shearer and 25-year-old Kuyt is one of the names mentioned as a target for new boss Glenn Roeder.
Chelsea and Liverpool have also been linked with the player, but he seems to have his heart set on a transfer to St James' Park.
He said: "When I was young I loved Italian football, but only because Van Basten, Rijkaard and Gullit were playing for AC Milan.
"Now I'd rather play in England. I love English football.
"I also think my style of play is completely right for the Premiership. A club like Newcastle would be my dream."
Roeder could be tempted to place a bid for Kuyt sooner rather than later as his price tag could increase dramatically if he enjoys an impressive World Cup finals.
