Arsenal are in talks with Borussia Dortmund midfielder Tomas Rosicky as Gunners boss Arsene Wenger looks to strengthen his squad.
The 25-year-old Czech Republic international was allowed to miss training with his country on Monday in order to open discussions with the Champions League beaten finalists.
National team manager Karel Bruckner confirmed: "I am surprised it did not come to light earlier.
"We have tried to keep our promise to keep quiet but I must now admit that Tomas is undergoing medical tests."
Rosicky, who has also been linked with a transfer to Atletico Madrid, has been a regular in the Czech Republic side since his debut in a 3-2 defeat against the Republic of Ireland in February 2000 and has already amassed more than 50 caps, including appearances at the European Championships of 2000 and 2004.
He was in sparkling form during the qualifiers for Germany 2006, scoring seven times in 12 games.
Rosicky began his club career with Sparta Prague and picked up Gambrinus Liga winners' medals in 1999 and 2000, before joining Borussia Dortmund in 2001 and helping them to win the Bundesliga and reach the UEFA Cup final.
