Sweden World Cup defender Karl Svensson has agreed a move from IFK Gothenburg to SPL outfit Rangers for an undisclosed fee.

The 22-year-old has penned a three-year contract at Ibrox, with newly-installed Gers head coach Paul Le Guen confident that he has made a shrewd signing.

He told the club's official website: "He has a good mentality and he has progressed quickly as a player. I feel we can make him an even better player.

"Perhaps he can be a good partner for Julien Rodriguez, but it is up to him to show that he deserves his place in the team.

"He is strong and I think he has the right profile to play in Scotland."

Svensson has spent the last three years with IFK and captained his side this season. He started his career with Jonkopings Sodra IF before being snapped up by Gothenburg in 2003.
