Netherlands boss Marco van Basten has revealed Rafael van der Vaart is not certain to be part of the Oranje squad at the World Cup.
The Hamburg midfielder is struggling to recover from an ankle injury, but van Basten was thought to be planning to take him to Germany in the hope he could play some part later in the tournament.
However, the coach knows he cannot afford to take too many players with fitness worries to the finals and was forced to reconsider his plans when three key men picked up knocks during a fiercely contested friendly against Australia on Sunday.
"With van der Vaart we will wait until Wednesday to make a decision," said van Basten.
The thigh injury suffered by Philip Cocu and the ankle problem sustained by Giovanni van Bronckhorst during the 1-1 draw against the Socceroos are not thought to be serious and both are confident of being fit to play in the Group C opener against Serbia & Montenegro on June 11.
Wesley Sneijder's ankle injury is more of a worry and the Ajax midfielder faces an anxious wait to discover whether he will play any part at the World Cup.
"Sneijder is limping and his ankle is strapped up," said van Basten.
"We'll have to wait 24 hours to find out how serious it is. We have to wait and see how it develops."
