Goalkeeper Oswaldo Sanchez has left Mexico's World Cup training camp following the death of his father.

The 32-year-old flew home in the early hours of Thursday morning to be with his family and it is not yet known whether he will return to play in the Group D opener against Iran in Nuremberg on Saturday.

A Mexican Football Association spokesman said: "He wants to come back and play, but of course we will wait and see.

"What we have to do is to see how Oswaldo reacts as he is still in shock and see what his family says."

Should Sanchez decide to remain in Mexico, coach Ricardo La Volpe will have to decide whether to make Jose Corona or Guillermo Ochoa his first-choice shot-stopper for the tournament.
