Ecuador will be looking to try and seal a spot in the knockout stages of the World Cup finals by inflicting another defeat on Costa Rica.
The South Americans started their campaign with an excellent 2-0 victory over a disappointing Poland side, while the Ticos were beaten 4-2 by hosts Germany in the tournament curtain-raiser.
However, skipper Ivan Hurtado has warned his side to keep their focus firmly on the job in hand, saying: "We're just 90 minutes from ensuring qualification, but of course we've done nothing yet.
"We have to come back to earth for these next matches."
Centre-back Hurtado (calf) is one of three injury doubts for Ecuador coach Luis Suarez, with strikers Carlos Tenorio (calf) and Agustin Delgado (back) also carrying knocks.
Suarez is being as cautious as his captain, adding: "We know them well and they know us well.
"It's going to be a completely different game. It is a more dangerous game for us than against Poland."
While Suarez is playing down his side's chances, his opposite number Alexandre Guimaraes knows that Costa Rica must go all out for victory to keep alive their hopes of progressing to the last 16.
He admitted: "These situations force us to a change and we will strengthen our attack.
"We have to take control and make sure we create lots of chances. We could not do that against Germany, but this is our turn to attack."
In fact the Ticos looked quite good going forward against Germany, with skipper Paulo Wanchope scoring twice in Munich's Allianz Arena.
However, in defence Guimaraes has problems, with Gilberto Martinez ruled out for the rest of the tournament with a knee injury, with Jervis Drummond likely to return to the starting line-up.
