Poland boss Pawel Janas was delighted with his side's display in their final Group A match against Costa Rica.

Bartosz Bosacki twice rose to head home from corners as Poland recovered from conceding a 25th-minute Ronald Gomez free-kick to win 2-1.

The victory counted for little as both sides knew before kick-off that they were on their way home, but Janas took some satisfaction from the performance.

"We were criticised because we couldn't score through set-pieces but today we did," said the coach.

"I'm very happy. It was very hot today and I'm glad the team responded to my tactics."

Costa Rica captain Luis Marin insisted his team-mates had given their all despite losing all three of their World Cup finals matches.

"The team played fairly well but they (Poland) took advantage of their corner kicks and their physical strength," said Marin.

"The team fought right to the end and so we are going home with a clear conscience. We tried.

"It's disappointing to leave without a win."
