Portsmouth chairman Milan Mandaric has admitted that his club are interested in signing Benfica's Portugal World Cup striker Nuno Gomes.
The 29-year-old is currently in his second spell with the Lisbon Eagles, having failed to make the grade during a two-year stint in Italy with Fiorentina.
However, Mandaric is keen to bring Gomes to England, as he told Radio Renaissance: "For now, I can only say that we have interest in Nuno Gomes.
"He is a quality player and we know there are more people interested in him."
Meanwhile, Pompey are reportedly closing in on a deal for Steaua Bucharest defender Mirel Radoi and are also maintaining their bid to bring England stopper Sol Campbell to Fratton Park.
However, Toulouse defender Achille Emana has denied reports suggesting that he has already agreed a move to Pompey.
He told Sky Sports: "I am still in Toulouse. People say I have signed with Pompey, but it is false.
"If I had signed, I would not be here, I would be looking for a house in England."
