A veteran goalkeeper who refused to let the fact that he has been without a club for the past 12 months stand in the way of his World Cup dreams. The 36-year-old has been without competitive action since he failed to win a new deal with Portuguese club Moreirense. Since then Ricardo has been training with Portimonense and despite his lack of match sharpness he is seen as the number one for the national team by coach Luis Oliveira Goncalves. When fellow veteran keeper Maurito failed to recover from injury in time for this summer's finals, Ricardo was the natural choice to step up such is his wealth of experience. Ricardo made his international debut in 1997 but looked to have played his last game for Angola when he refused a call-up to the African Cup of Nations 12 months later.
