Gabriel Heinze will travel to Germany hoping to put a disappointing season behind him and to enhance his reputation as the best left-back in the world. The tough-tackling defender made a positive impact in England during his first season with Manchester United following his 10.4 million euros move from Paris St-Germain in 2004, but his adventurous approach was sorely missed by the Red Devils as he sat out most of the 2005-06 campaign with a serious knee injury. Heinze is also a vital player for Argentina, having helped them to win gold at the Athens Olympics and reach the final of the 2004 Copa America and 2005 Confederations Cup, and Jose Pekerman will have been delighted to see him return to action in the closing weeks of the season.
