A composed defender who has made a big impact in the Primera Liga, Gabriel Milito is likely to be restricted to bench duty in Germany. He made his name in Argentina with Independiente, where his form looked set to earn him a move to Real Madrid in 2003 until he failed a medical at the Bernabeu. Real Zaragoza stepped in and took a chance on his fitness and were rewarded when he helped them to beat Real Madrid in the Spanish Cup final in his first season at Estadio La Romareda. The 25-year-old made his debut for the national team in December 2000 but the wealth of defensive talent on offer in Argentina has prevented him becoming a regular starter.
