Scouts from all the major European leagues will be queueing up to watch Javier Mascherano in action in Germany. The midfield powerhouse made his international debut in a friendly against Uruguay in 2003 before he had even broken into the first team at River Plate, and was part of the Argentina teams that won gold at the Athens Olympics and finished runners-up at the 2004 Copa America. Mascherano is likely to play alongside Juan Roman Riquelme in the centre of midfield at the World Cup and Jose Pekerman will be hoping he can produce the kind of form that persuaded Corinthians to pay River Plate $15million for his services last year.
