Versatile defender Nicolas Burdisso was a surprise selection in Argentina's squad for Germany 2006 after struggling to make an impact at Internazionale. He joined the Italian club in 2004 after an impressive spell with Boca Juniors which saw him collect two Apertura, three Copa Libertadores and two Intercontinental Cup winner's medals. However, the 25-year-old has made just 24 Serie A appearances in two seasons in Milan. Despite this the reputation he gained in Argentina by helping the Albiceleste win the 2001 FIFA World Youth Championship and 2004 Olympics remains intact and coach Jose Pekerman trusts him to provide cover across the back four at the World Cup finals.
