Schwarzer started his professional career in Germany, but made his mark following a move to Middlesbrough in early 1997. Standing 6ft 5ins, Schwarzer is a commanding figure who deals with the high ball well, as well as being one of the top shot-stoppers in the Premiership. He initially arrived in England in November 1996, joining Bradford City from Kaiserslautern. After a matter of months with Bradford he moved on to Boro, where he has been a regular ever since. Has made more than 350 appearances for the Teessiders, but has been a doubt for the summer showpiece after suffering a fractured cheekbone in the FA Cup semi-final defeat by West Ham.
