Parma schemer Grella offers a more defensive option in midfield and is one of the most under-rated members of the Socceroos squad. A team-mate of Marco Besciano's at Parma, he also played alongside his compatriot at Empoli, having started his career in Italy with Ternana. Made his international debut in the 3-1 friendly win over England in February 2003 and has a been a regular in the set-up ever since, doing much of the unseen and unglamorous work in the midfield engine room.
