A rugged defender, Martinez made his name at the World Cup finals four years ago and secured a move to Italy to join Brescia soon after the competition. Has been a regular for his club side ever since and has also passed the 50-cap mark for his country. Usually plays in the centre of defence, but can also fill in at left-back if needed. Started his career at home with Deportivo Saprissa and is one of few Costa Ricans to forge a successful career away from his homeland.
