A solid performer in a defensive midfield role, Vranjes made his international debut as far back as January 1999 against Egypt, but has never been able to establish himself as a first choice for his country. Played a bit-part role in Japan and Korea four years ago and missed out altogether at Euro 2004. Unlikely to earn a starting spot in Germany, Vranjes plies his trade in the German Bundesliga with Werder Bremen, having also had spells with Stuttgart and Bayer Leverkusen.
