Butina has finally emerged from the shadows to become the likely first-choice goalkeeper for Croatia this summer. Made his international debut in September 2001 against San Marino, but had to play second fiddle to Stipe Pletikosa until the qualifying campaign for Germany 2006. Started his club career with Dinamo Zagreb, before joining Belgian side Club Brugge in the summer of 2003, where he has also become a regular starter after initial problems in adapting. At 32 this is likely to be his last chance to make a major impact on the world stage.
