Equally at home in midfield or up front, Marek Heinz has the useful knack of chipping in with goals at crucial times. He travelled to Euro 2004 as a fringe member of the Czech Republic squad, but found the target in the victories against Latvia and Germany. The 28-year-old also netted twice in the World Cup qualifying campaign, but has found it difficult to reproduce his international form at club level. After starting his career with Sigma Olomouc he endured disappointing spells in Germany with Hamburg and Arminia Bielefeld. He returned to his homeland and scored 19 times as Banik Ostrava won the Gambrinus Liga title in 2003-04, but has since struggled to make an impact at Borussia Monchengladbach and Galatasaray.
