Zenit St Petersburg left-back Pavel Mares is unlikely to see much action at Germany 2006. The 30-year-old featured in just one World Cup qualifier and is regarded merely as cover for Marek Jankulovski in the Czech Republic set-up. That has been the case throughout Mares' international career and he has played in only two competitive games since winning his first cap in a 2-0 friendly victory against Hungary in February 2002. At club level, he played for Bohemians and Sparta Prague in his homeland before moving to the Russian Premier League with Zenit St Petersburg in 2003.
