A tough-tackling attacking full-back, Zdenek Grygera is expected to be a key player for the Czech Republic at Germany 2006. After being capped at Under-17, Under-18 and Under-21 level, he made his senior international debut in a 5-0 friendly victory against South Korea in August 2001. He has remained in the squad ever since, but had to see off a strong challenge from Martin Jiranek to re-establish himself as first choice right-back after Euro 2004. Grygera made his name with FK Drnovice before joining Sparta Prague in 2000 and helping them to lift two Gambrinus Liga titles. His consistent displays earned him a 3.5million euros move to Ajax in 2003, where he collected an Eredivisie winner's medal in his first season.
