Experienced midfielder whose recent performances for LDU Quito earned him a surprise call-up for duty in Germany this summer. A classic box-to-box midfielder, he combines defensive strength with an eye for goal, especially with his long-range shooting. Has not featured for the national team for nearly two years, having last appeared against Brazil in November 2004. Unlikely to be a starter this summer, but offers a valuable option from the bench for coach Luis Fernando Suarez.
