The 19-year-old's pace and tenacity helped to bring him to Sven-Goran Eriksson's attention and he pipped Shaun Wright-Phillips to a place in the England squad. Lennon was virtually unknown when he moved from Leeds United to Tottenham last summer and he was expected to be a minor figure in his first season at White Hart Lane. However, a serious injury to Wayne Routledge gave Lennon his chance and he took it, appearing in 27 Premiership games for Martin Jol's side. He also scored two crucial goals in Spurs' promising campaign, in the victories against Birmingham City and Bolton Wanderers.
