The 25-year-old has endured an injury-ravaged campaign with Arsenal but remains Sven-Goran Eriksson's first choice at left-back. Cole played a key part in both the 2002 World Cup and Euro 2004 and was named in the official All-Star squad for the latter tournament by the UEFA technical study group. Made his debut for England in the 3-1 win against Albania in March 2001 since when he has improved his defensive work to complement his attacking instincts. Expected to leave Arsenal this summer with Chelsea and Real Madrid both linked with a big-money move for the full-back.
