The Manchester City goalkeeper won his first England cap against Mexico in 1997. He took over from David Seaman as first-choice keeper when the Arsenal shot-stopper retired but lost his place to Paul Robinson after a poor display in the World Cup qualifier against Austria in September 2004. Won a recall for the friendly against Denmark in August 2005 but the 4-1 defeat was his last cap for his country. The former Watford, Liverpool and Aston Villa star has enjoyed a solid season for City though and will be an experienced understudy to Robinson in Germany.
