The 23-year-old midfielder made his name at Nottingham Forest and made 29 League games for the club before sealing a £5million transfer to Newcastle United in February 2002. He was a regular in the England Under-21 side before making his senior debut in the friendly defeat to Australia in February 2003. Jenas' career stalled at St James' Park and, after complaining of "life in a goldfish bowl" on Tyneside, he moved to Tottenham in August 2005 for £7million. A solid season for Spurs helped to force him into Sven-Goran Eriksson's plans for Germany but he is likely to have a peripheral role barring injuries to first-choice midfielders.
