Carson earned a late call-up to the England squad after Norwich City's Robert Green suffered a groin injury in a B international against Belarus. The 21-year-old started his career with Leeds United but was soon snapped up by Liverpool for £1million in January 2005. Was called up for the close season tour of the USA a year ago and continued to impress for the Under-21s, while gaining regular first-team action on loan at Sheffield Wednesday towards the end of last season. Carson had not featured in a senior international before his belated call for the summer showpiece.
