The 29-year-old has emerged as France's number one right-back since Lilian Thuram was switched in to central defence by Raymond Domenech. The stylish Bayern Munich defender has spent the last six years with the Bundesliga giants since moving to Germany from AS Monaco. Sagnol, who began his career with St Etienne, is equally happy attacking as he is defending. He was included in the French squads at both the last World Cup and Euro 2004 and is contracted to Bayern for another four seasons. Sagnol has vast Champions League experience having played in the competition for Bayern in each of the last six seasons.
