The gifted Bayern Munich schemer was one of very few players to impress during Germany's dismal showing at the last European Championships. Made his national team debut just before his 20th birthday against Hungary in June 2004 and has been a regular ever since. A skilful, inventive player, Schweinsteiger is often asked to fill the wide right midfield berth, but can also operate effectively at the heart of the midfield engine room. Has been a regular for Bayern this season as they have retained their Bundesliga title, but has surprisingly found goals hard to come by.
