Schneider is now one of the senior members of the Germany squad, having made his international debut back in 1999 against New Zealand. Has won well over 50 caps and has proved to be an adaptable performer across the midfield. Played in every game of the finals four years ago as Germany surprisingly reached the final before losing to Brazil. The 32-year-old's major failing is his lack of goalscoring prowess but he is unlikely to let coach Jurgen Klinsmann down if called upon. Schneider started his club career with Carl-Zeiss Jena and has also played for Eintracht Frankfurt, before joining Bayer Leverkusen in the summer of 1999.
