Podolski is the brightest young talent in the German game and has so far made a seamless transition onto the international stage. Like Miroslav Klose, Podolski was born in Poland but opted to play his football for his adopted home. Made his debut at the age of 19 in June 2004 against Hungary and has quickly moved into double figures in terms of international goals. Enhanced his reputation at the 2005 Confederations Cup, scoring three goals and forming an effective partnership with Kevin Kuranyi. Has been linked with a number of top clubs after opting to stay with Koln and helped them regain their Bundesliga status a year ago before they again dropped out of the top-flight.
