The undoubted talisman of the German national team, skipper Ballack will be hoping to lift the World Cup trophy on home soil this summer. At the 2002 finals he provided much of the inspiration in Germany's surprise run to the final, scoring three goals in the process before missing the showdown with Brazil due to suspension. Ballack made his international bow in 1999 against Scotland and made his club reputation with Bayer Leverkusen, before joining Bayern Munich in the summer of 2002. Ballack has helped Bayern win three league titles during his time with the Bavarian giants but has completed a move to English Premier League champions Chelsea this summer rather than pen a new deal at the Allianz Arena. Has scored more than 30 goals for Germany and will need to be at his best to inspire his country to the latter stages of the competition.
