Klose sprang to prominence at the last World Cup, playing in all seven of Germany's games and scoring five goals, including a hat-trick in the 8-0 thrashing of Saudi Arabia. Born in Poland, Klose made his name with Kaiserslautern and was quickly drafted into Die Mannschaft, making his international bow in March 2001 against Albania - scoring a late winner. Tall and strong in the air, Klose opted to move to Werder Bremen in the summer of 2004 and has formed a lethal partnership with Croat Ivan Klasnic at the Weserstadion. Has netted more than 20 goals for Germany and will be hoping to improve on a bit-part role at the last European Championships two years ago. Leading scorer in the Bundesliga this season.
