An adaptable, elegant player, Kehl can play either as a holding midfielder or centre-back or even as a sweeper. Predominantly left-footed, he has been utilised mainly in front of the back four by his club side, Borussia Dortmund. Kehl started his career with Hannover and also played for Freiburg before joining Borussia at the start of 2001. Made his international bow in May 2001 against Slovakia and featured twice in the finals four years ago as Germany reached the final, but then suffered with a number of injuries that have prevented him from becoming a fixture for Die Mannschaft.
