One of the most successful players in the history of African football, Samuel Kuffour's experience will be vital to the Black Stars in Germany. The powerful defender made his name as a member of the Ghana squads that won the 1991 FIFA Under-17 World Championship and picked up bronze at the Barcelona Olympics the following year. He joined Bayern Munich in 1993 and went on to collect five Bundesliga, a Champions League and a World Club Cup winner's medals with the German giants, before joining AS Roma in 2005. The 29-year-old's senior international career has been less successful and he has twice endured spells out of the team following clashes with the management.
