The versatile Giovanni van Bronckhorst has revived his career since joining Barcelona in 2003 and will be an important figure for the Netherlands in Germany. Although an accomplished midfielder, the 31-year-old now normally plays as an attacking left-back for both club and country. He made his international debut in a friendly against Brazil in 1996 and after being part of the Oranje squad that reached the semi-finals of France '98, Euro 2000 and Euro 2004, has over 50 caps to his name. Van Bronckhorst has also experienced success at club level, picking up six winners' medals during his three-year spell at Rangers and helping Arsenal to win the 2002 Premiership title and the 2003 FA Cup, before playing a key role in Barca's recent successes.
